Changing the ‘Black Spots’ waste into a garden

Udupi: Innovative initiative Zilla Panchayat has managed to clean more than 150 black spots in the villages, transform it to the garden.
According to CEO of ZP Y Naveen Bhat, the initiative under the Mission of Swachh Bharat has received expanding public support.
“We have launched a campaign ‘Namma Ooru, Swachh Ooru’ to fully get rid of the rubbish black spots.
We have cleared more than 150 black spots with public assistance, where waste was thrown on the side of the road, near the bus stop, and on Along the river.
We received information about 55 garbage black spots in the district through the WhatsApp 9483330564 number.
Meanwhile, almost 100 black spots have been identified by Gram Panchayats.
The majority of the identified black spots have been removed to develop the garden by planting flowers and fruiting.
In addition, CCTV cameras and signboards that prohibit garbage disposal in public places have been installed.

Gram Panchayats also enforces a fine of RS 2,000 on those who violate the rules and dispose of garbage in public places, he said.
“Kodibettu and Alevoor Gram Panchayats have done regular drives to find offenders and, in some cases, people have been ordered to clean the area where they dispose of waste, besides punishment,” he said.
ZP has launched a campaign that encourages people to share information about black spots and photos and video violators throw away waste.
“Those who share information about people throwing garbage in public places will be appreciated properly.
We will not reveal other personal names or details from such informants,” he said.
