Channavea Kanivi: icon of Dharwad, forever indebted to the city

Dharwad: ‘Vishwa Vinootana, Vidya Chetana, Sarva Hrudaya Sanskari, Jaya Bharati, Karunaada Saraswati, Gudi Gopura Shilpa Kalakruti …’ Thus, the Rinditan, which marks the commencement of the annual connection of the University of Karnatak, Dharwad.
Proposed by Channavavea Kanavi, the song is the Ode poet for the alma mater of the mater, where he celebrates the inheritance of university-rich excellence, academic accuracy and eternal dating with knowledge.
Not many students who graduated from the University of Karnatak, with this song thrashed in their years before receiving their title certificate, would know that the song was compiled by one of the most famous alumni of the university.
Kanavi, after graduating with Ma in Kannada from the University of Karnatak in 1952, working in Wing Publishing Varsity for more than 30 years, thus spent more than a third of his life on the University campus.
Respected by his writer’s colleagues and his single talent, Kanavi was loved by his friends because of his gentle and friendly attitude.
Writer Famous Veena Shanteshwar summarizes the legacy of the Kanavi Literature in a brief: “Poetry is all this said; and very not revealed, and this applies to Kanavi poems, suggestions and sensitivity are the two main traits of its verse.” Meaning memories in Kanvi poetry instill a lot of value in Life in the reader, add Veena.
“Many of my generation literary students grow into careful admirers, influenced by their poem.
Kannadigas, especially the termination of Dharwad, will remain grateful forever to him for this,” he said.
In an interview he gave to this correspondent, Kanavi admitted his debt to Karnatak College in Dharwad, the environment he said was conducive to his growth as a poet.
“The creative atmosphere in Karnatak College and a beautiful natural environment from Dharwad inspired me to write poetry,” Kanavi said.
For poets, securing into the colleague of College is a dream come true.
It was when writing a Mulki exam – a public exam for seventh grade students – in the training college for men who first saw in college, and when he enrolled on campus a few years later, it looked as if his fate had taken it there.
Kanavi considers himself lucky to have studied at the legs of literary titans like Vinayak Krishna Gokak, who is the Principal of the Karnatak ago.
As a student, he wrote poetry, Funny Limerick, and an article, which he immediately served at literary events.
Many awards he won during the formative years were precursors for their famous innings in the literature.
When Gokak and Da Ra Bendre wrote the introduction to his poetry collection, it was destiny rounded another loop in his life.
In his wife, Shantadevi Kanavi, he found a friend who was ideal, both in life and letters.
A famous writer himself, Shantadevi wrote many novels and short shops collection, many of which have been translated into Hindi, Malayalam among other languages.
Karnataka Sahitya Award Award in 1976, and honorary award in 1984, Shantadevi died in May 2020 – a losses that were very rocking Kanavi.
Ketavi with which Kanavi treats life problems in its verses is the nature that holds it in a good life in life too.
He once said that the RS 15 remuneration he received from all Indian radio, where he was often invited to read poetry and participate in radio games, helping him pay rent for his room.
Kanavi, with friends and students who think of the same mind, form the ‘kavyanubhava’ which functions as an informal stage where young literature talents can express themselves among peers.
