Mumbai: After almost 20 years, the old chawl pocket of the century in South Mumbai is the first to get a nod to rebuild clusters in the city.
State Housing Authority, Mhada, gave ahead on October 27 to rebuild Chikhalwadi Lama at Tardeo.
The 1.54 acre plot consisted of a 12 Chawl labyrinth, where more than 200 people lived, stood behind Bhatia Hospital.
The Go-ahead road paves for the 36-storey tower which will now appear on the plot.
Development, detained since 2002, recently got ‘all clear’ from a high-powered panel designated by the state.
Officials say one big hurdle in rebuilding a cluster is a rule to have a wide road 18 meters around the project.
Builder has requested permission to rebuild old regulations that allow the width of a 12 meter road.
This July, the state notice cleaned the deck to rebuild the cluster with a 12 meter road width, officials said.
With the nod of Mhada, this project will be the first city under the cluster development scheme that is cleaned with new rules.
“This project was finally formed, we enjoyed Mhada signed an agreement and issued NOC to the developer,” said Suraj Shetty, a joint secretary of the population association.
“All 228 tenants will get 583 sq ft area carpets that can be used with Corpus RS 6 lakh funds.
To ensure a schedule is fulfilled, we have asked the developer to maintain contingency funds …
I hope to work starting next month and all tenants support the development.” Rajendra Chaturvedi from the developer company said they would complete the project in four years.
