CHANDIGARH: The coronavirus pandemic has severely hit porters in the railroad station.
The guys in red who post bags of tired travellers have dropped their everyday earnings around 90 percent.
They mention two rationale for their illness: passengers dread grabbing Covid whenever they take their bag along with escalators and lifts enables them to simply take their luggage.
Sticking to the railroad station is a regular for them even though knowing they won’t make one penny the whole moment.
They sit in the empty stages, sharing their own woes with one another.
Radhey Sham (28), Mukesh (31), Kuldeep (27) along with Uday Partap (20) stated that they, such as 39 additional porters, come everyday and reunite with vacant pockets.
“I’ve been employed as a coolie for 15 decades here.
We used to make around Rs 500 per day but today we don’t even can buy Rs 50,” explained Sham.
They stated that the seven porters have left due to their hometowns.
“Most porters have left for their cities or have changed to rail stations in Delhi, Lucknow and Meerut, in which they able to make to feed their own families,” explained Sham.
The majority of them sit at a space allocated to them near the railroad.
Sawar Khan, the president of the porters’ body, stated individuals are hesitant to employ porters because they don’t need anyone managing their bag amid the outbreak.
