Chennai: Head of Minister of Tamil Nadu M St Stalin has requested housing and urban development department to examine the possibility of expanding the contours of the Metropolitan area of Chennai (CMA).
At the review meeting on Thursday, the minister’s chairman took stock of various projects and schemes applied by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Indicates that satellite cities need to be designed with the participation of various institutions and departments including education, health and Chennai Metro Rail Limited, he said that planning authorities must be created for major cities to improve infrastructure and development.
The expansion of CMA depends on the balance of whether the proposed 8,878 square kilometers consisting of all Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur and the parts of Ranipet Regency can be added to the metropolitan city.
At present, CMA covers a distance of 1189 square kilometers.
