Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation has a list of 53 most vulnerable locations and the reason why they are vulnerable to flooding.
This data has been together with the Civic Agency since 2016 and includes areas that have just flooded such as Colony AGS in Velachery, West Mambalam, Pullianthope, Jawahar Nagar in Puncak, among others.
An official said that after the 2015 flood, the team consisting of 15 IAS officers were constitutionally studied each zone and reasons for their puddle.
The former corporation commissioner, G Prakash, has stated last year that there were more than 300 vulnerable locations, which were reduced to 53 in 2018 after various channels were built.
This year, when more than 500 roads are under 3 feet, that location data is vulnerable to the civic body does not seem to be more relevant.
In the past five years, the 980km long channel was built but most did not have the right slope, according to experts from Anna University.
All 53 locations mentioned in the list, copies with TOI, are very flooded.
In addition to the list, this year new regions such as Ashok Nagar, West Mambalam, Kodambakkam and Adyar saw floods due to damaged sewers and canals designed intentionally.
This is evidenced by the fact that on November 12, although there was no rainfall reported for 24 hours and the sun shone brightly, 93 locations remained flooded.
In many areas such as Mandaveli, residents held protests.
Some areas do not have an electrical connection for five consecutive days – Aziz Nagar in Kodambakkam, Alwarpet, T Nagar, Pullianthope, Choola, Pursawalkam, Pattalam, Seminar, and part of Adyar.
Why is the official not with direct information and data wake up on time? Officials told toi that they did their part for the best of their abilities.
“We did some storm water disposal projects at Santhome High Road and Sidco Nagar in Villivakkam.
At the location where the PWD channel is narrow and filled with garbage and debris, water supports reduced,” said an official.
The official also said that areas where floods occurred almost at sea level.
“Canal and the river are full.
So when the water channel, even though it has the right slope, don’t bring water, it produces a puddle.” Only when the level of the river and the canal goes down, it can bring drain water, “another corporate engineer said.
See the possible solution now , an expert said, “The need for hours is a model of flooding with the development and disposal system today.
Also, a project that will ensure the arrangement of obstacles in the mouth of the river that will ensure that when the sea level rises, excess water is blocked to enter the city.
