Chennai: Adpiling of advertising made a comeback in the city and its edge, swinging the jambulil and median on arterial stretches such as OMR and GST Road.
The technically accumulation was permitted in several places, but activists said they should not be allowed in the middle of the road and along the highway.
“Any advertisement is attracting attention.
When it’s all the way, it will attract the driver’s attention,” said K Kathirmathiyon, an activist who has written to the Union of the Ministry of Transport and the highway and moved Madras High Court so as not to establish hoarding and advertising.
The culture of political parties that established banners has declined in Chennai since September 2019 when R Subhashree, a technician, died after illegal hoarding which was erected along the median fell on Twowheeler on Jalan Radial Pallavaram-ThoraiPakkam.
Last month, an official statement from DMK MP and the Secretary of the Party Organization R S Bharathi urged party officials not to establish banners without permission.
“The party headquarters will act against anyone who does not obey the command.” While political parties do not pay local bodies, advertising stockpiles bring income to local agencies and sometimes the authorities concerned ignores the safety of road users.
As long as OMR, large hoarding is common on leg bridges, along the median and on traffic signals.
Similar is the case on GST Road.
“It is unfortunate that the Tamil Nadu road development company, which maintains arterial stretches such as OMR, has allowed the contractor to display a signboard like that on the median, light pole, the bus stop and excess leg bridges.
This file board violates the prevention of TN from the pional law Public spaces, “said P Sajeevan from Perungudi.
Kathirmathiyon said the authorities allowed hoarding in many cases of releasing technical imagery.
“In the median and FOB, even if it was allowed to establish a stockpiling, it does not guarantee they will not cause accidents.
As a rule of blankets, in the media, the accumulation of advertising should not be permitted,” he said.
A GCC official said in the hoarding city limit was only allowed on private land with NOC.
“We will conduct other surveys before the monsoon and issue a notice to remove hoarding during a heavy wind,” the official said.
