Chennai: The Indian Airport Authority (AAI) plans to set up facilities to guide passengers who come and leave the city.
Counter Meet-and-Greet and his staff, popular at other airports, will help passengers who leave for FastTrack check-in formalities while helping those who come with luggage, transportation options to the city.
Tender has floated to identify companies that will be able to carry out work.
Job will likely be given next month.
A AAI official said meeting and greetings facilities were available at all airports and had requests for service for some time, especially from passengers who came for the first time and those who traveled business.
Passengers must pay a fee to use this service, but many states that the lack of service is inconvenience, especially because of the ongoing construction work that makes it down from vehicles and troublesome hostel cars.
This service will be used for business class passengers and is very important because international flights scheduled can continue in the middle of next month.
Barricading, heavy vehicle movements, workers and equipment to build an integrated terminal and two multi-level parking lots causing the hassle for passengers.
When traveling back in a large way and domestic terminals have started to see 20,000 passengers per day, there is a traffic jam at check in counter and at the time of security check-in.
Assistance facilities including Helpdesk are likely to help in this scenario, airline officials said.
The airport also cannot install signage which is quite on the city side because of construction work.
Chennai airport has a meeting-and-greeting facility a few years ago but it was unsuccessful because the company staff were not permitted to access the security check area and meet passengers at the aerobridge gate or arrival.
The source said no need for help for passengers if it could not be provided from the aerobridge gate or arrival along the road to the boarding gate in the case of departing passengers.
Because staff are not permitted into the security check area, passengers who need assistance are forced to depend on land staff or trunk handlers to help them carry out formalities in the terminal.
The airport does not have adequate staff to help business class passengers also because they only have a land handling company that presents international flights.
