Chennai: CMDA Mulls rotates CMBT to playground

Chennai: When some playgrounds and parks in the city have been taken over for the work of Metro trains and other projects, shrinking open space in the core bag, the Metropolitan Development Authority of Chennai (CMDA) reflects on other plans to turn around the Terminus Bus Chennai Mofussil in Koyambedu to the playground.
CMDA, which maintained CMBT which was closed in a few years when the distance bus fleet shifted to two new terminuses on the outskirts, appointed as consultants to explore various roads utilizing main land parcels.
While CMBT lay more than 37 hectares, the terminus for personal buses diagonally across the wholesale market in Koyambedu spread at 6.8 hectares.
The two facilities will be vacated after the Mofussil bus terminus in the construction in Kilambakkam and Thirumazhisai was disposed of for passengers in 2022 and 2023 and the planning authority explores the possibility to use it for other public purposes.
Secretary of the CMDA member Anshul Mishra said a consultant would be appointed for this purpose.
“The consultant will study various options about utilizing land.
Playground in Koyambedu is one of the choices,” he added.
K PK P PK Submanian, former urban engineering professor at Anna University, said that health facilities such as special hospitals, recreational rooms include indoor games and organized green spaces such as botanical gardens can also be explored.
“Public scenery must be caused before making a final decision to take advantage of land parcels.
In the event that the playground planned, a park must also be part of it with a yoga center,” he added.
