Chennai: Police police in Poonamallee sub-prison on Saturday were booked after he threatened to hit a person who arrested him talking on his cellphone and asked him.
The prison is where some fundamentalists involved in cases registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been detained.
The police said the Surendran Nair inspector had come for a routine examination when he saw Govindan, a police batch of Police Special Nadu, was engrossed in chat.
The others snapped, but Govindan continued his telephone conversation.
When the inspector demanded that the police produce a guard book to enter details and also questioned him to chat while on duty, Govindan quarreled with him.
Both violations exchanged and in anger, Govindan pointed at the service attack rifle towards the inspector and said he would paint it apart if he said one word, a police officer said.
Nair went to the Nazarethpet police station and filed a complaint against the police.
Registered cases and teams led by Sub-Inspector Umarani bring Govindan to the government’s mental health hospital in Ayanavaram to carry out detailed medical examinations.
Govindan, which was attached to the 13th Tamil Nadu Special Battalion (TSP), was assigned to carry out the task on the outskirts of the prison in Karayan Chavadi near Nazarethpet.
Further investigation is active.
There are around 25 inmates including some Muslim fundamentalists detained in sub-prisons.
Khaja Moiden, who pushed the murder of the Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) Y Wilson in Kalkilai near Kankumari on January 8, 2020, recently shifted from Tihar prison to Poonamallee’s sub-prison.
At least 20 to 30 inmates, who were arrested for a small violation, were quarantined while in the prison before being sent in a batch, once a week, to a central prison in Puzhal.
Muslim fundamentalists are detained in high security blocks, while other inmates are stored in the hostel.
