CHENNAI: 9,500 more individuals died in Chennai in May this year in comparison to the identical period this past year, going through the amount of death certificates issued by the town corporation.

Dr T S Selvavinayagam, manager of public health and registrar of births and deaths, told TOI he simply compiles deaths according to statistics supplied by local figures.

Dr Giridhar Babu, professor of epidemiology in Public Health Foundation of India, stated that although the amount of extra deaths was large, not all might be caused by Covid-19.

He explained.
“This will be mean visiting families and discovering the reason of passing,” Dr.Babu stated.
Dr K Kolandaswamy, former manager of public health, said cities such as Chennai could enroll excess deaths since people from neighboring districts could arrive at the town for better healthcare.
