Chennai: In a twist to a sustainable protest from the population on the East Coast road against efforts, Neelankarai police on Friday arrested five people to sell government land illegally to the public.
The question revealed that at least 30 people were involved in exploring government properties which they then sold.
Arrest has been identified as D Rajendran, 56, from Muneswaran Koil Street in Injambakkam, S Kanniappan, 56, from Jalan Muneswaran Koil in Injambakkam, M Cholan, 47, from Ponniamman Coil Street in Injambakkam, G Venkatsan, 60, from Ponhiamman coil road on Injambakkam and S Haridoss, 57, from Thanthai Periyar Nagar in Injambakkam.
Based on the complaints of Sholinganallur Tahsildar Sweethere, the Neelankarai police registered the case and arrested five men.
The police sent them to prison after producing it in the Judge Court.
