Chennai: Mandiri restaurants and bars in the city and suburbs, which lost around 35% footsteps when night hours and Sunday locking applies, are expected to see business improvements because restrictions have been appointed.
Pubs spread customers with ‘happy hour’ offers, offering free alcoholic drinks during the day, have attracted them because more customers are expected to be incoming troops.
Restrictions over the past two weeks is the third blow to the hospitality sector that has suffered permanent closure.
About 1,500 restaurants with different seating capacity due to poor patronage, maintenance and rent since March 2020.
At night, when most restaurants record around 40% of their total businesses, only a small portion that runs in the last two weeks.
Empty chairs in restaurants are not translated into online orders that continue to be in the range of 20%, according to the Youth Association.
Mandiri restaurants, pubs and bars are only permitted 50% of their total seating capacity according to standard operating procedures (SOP).
R Rajkumar, restaurant owner in Colathur, said the seat was empty when there should be a surge on foot after 7pm.
