Chennai gets 6 times more rain, maybe friends for a week

Chennai: The city, which was pounded by heavy rain for almost five days, continued to remain underwater in several places on Friday when efforts by the authorities failed to bring expected assistance.
According to B Balachandran, DDG, IMD, the state received 10cm rainfall between 7 and 12 November against normal 4cm, which was 142% of excessive rainfall, and Chennai recorded 46cm rain on an average of 8cm, namely a surplus of 491%.
The low pressure area will be formed above the South Andaman Sea on Saturday, but experts say the city might get a pause from the shower until the middle of next week.
People must navigate knee water in K Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Pulianthope, Pattalam, Choola, Purasawalkam, Alwarpet, Semmirery, and several other regions while several main roads are closed.
Heavy rain in Kanyakumari Regency since Thursday left one dead and flooded 3,363 hectares of agricultural land.
Landslides were also reported on Jalan Pudumund and Jalan Ooty-Kotagiri.
Chennai and the suburbs may get light to moderate rain for the next two days but heavy rains are likely in Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpet on Sunday.
On Friday, around 93 places in the city, including 327 roads, remained submerged.
More than 1,300 roads are cleaned from garbage.
