Lockdown Covid-19 helped dropped a road accident by up to 30% in Chennai and was 21% in Tamil Nadu as a whole last year.
The latest NCRB report states that in 2020 a total of 872 riders died in 855 accidents in Chennai.
In the previous year, 1,262 deaths were reported.
Before locking, Chennai with a vehicle population of almost 60 lakh reported five to six deaths of accidents on the road every day and often topped the country’s accident chart in the last decade.
But in 2020, Delhi had the highest number of road fatality (1,130).
While the accident has fallen, the number of motorists ordered to drive Rash is almost the same in Chennai City.
About 4,300 riders, most two-wheeled riders were ordered last year by traffic police.
And 98% of motorists were ordered to endanger others on the road.
“Because of the free road, bikers, and the car drove above the specified speed.
Many do not use a helmet or seat belt,” said a senior traffic police.
Strengthen this, the data with Traffic Police Chennai suggested that 8,000 motorists were ordered to drive without helmets in the city every day of last year.
Although the decrease in accidents can mainly be associated with more stringent police locking and fastener, road repairs and repair work are carried out on stretches that are prone to accidents too much help in reducing crashes after relaxing locking norms in the past four months, said a state road safety cell member.
But Kamal Soi, a road safety expert said that only 23 of the 560-threat of blackspots at TN Highways was repaired to date.
If they have completed repair work as claimed, the accident rate should not rise immediately after the vehicle movement becomes normal.
The level of the accident once again began to climb.
This proves that TN still has a long way in terms of road safety, he added.
In the first five months of 2021, there has been a 15% increase in the highway accident.
