CHENNAI: After about a month’s closure, shopping malls, commercial complexes and places of worship are set to reopen from Monday with the government easing curbs in Chennai and adjoining districts of Tiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kancheepuram.
Malls and standalone garment and jewellery showrooms can function from 9am to 7pm.
Staff at malls and places of worship on Sunday were busy sanitising the premises and marking areas to ensure patrons maintain social distance.
With cases on the decline, civic body officials said they will be working with commercial establishments to bringing down cases without affecting economy.
“We have been following the SOP as advised by the government and will continue to follow them,” said a spokesperson for a premier garment showroom in T Nagar.
Malls have set up public announcement systems to remind shoppers to ensure social distancing and wear masks.
In public spaces, it is difficult to trace contacts and the onus lies with the organisers, establishment managers and members of the public themselves to follow norms and avoid getting infected, said a corporation official.
