Chennai: With footsteps at the metro station touched an average of 1.3 lakh a day on December 2021, the Ridership of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has crossed the protection of pre-covid daily 1.16 lakh.
Officials connect the increase in passengers to higher train frequencies, fees, opening the North Chennai line, and efficient operation during the rainy season.
In 2021, 2.5 crore passengers traveled on the Metro train; It was around 91 percent of the total passengers inserted Metro in the first three years.
However, the number is still much lower than the initial estimate of 7.8 lakh a day.
“More than 1.8 lakh used our services on December 30 when there was rainy season rain and city streets choked.
We expanded our services with an hour that day and we saw more than 1,100 people traveling on our train after 11pm , “said an official.
A total of 9.8 crore passengers traveled on the Metro train between June 29, 2015, when Metro services began, and December 31, 2021.
In the release, CMRL said 2.8 crore passengers traveled between June 29, 2015 and December 31, 2018.
Numbers grow to 3.2 crores In 2019, after the phase-1 was complete.
However, passengers, tanked during the suspension of train services between June and September 2020.
The audience officer, which formed the majority of Metro Commuter, began working from home also affected the number of passengers.
To increase patronage, CMRL changed its executive class to the only female coach and increased timing of rush hour.
“We also plan the other first and final military connectivity options, apart from the minibus feeder services that are just launched.
We hope this will encourage more to use our services,” officially added.
