Chennai: a large LED screen will soon play audio and video warnings to passengers traveling by metro trains at the approach station, the main landmarks around it and feeder services.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is expected to install a screen like that on all trains in the early 2022.
The screen prototype will be ready in six months.
Digital screens will also help increase CMRL non-ticket income options because they will also have provisions for displaying ads.
A metro rail official said a company had been awarded a contract to adjust and design the right screen in the room above the automatic door of the train.
“The screen prototype will be ready at the end of this year and the entire fleet we will have a LED screen display in early 2022,” the official said.
“Each of the four cars on the train will have this screen above the automatic door,” officially added.
The screen will be installed at the Metro Rail 52 train fleet including 10 new trains.
Officials say the screen will have automatic visual broadcasting and audio information related routes in the phase-1 extension path and phase-1 cmrl and also the operation between corridors between corridor-1 and corridor-2.
There may be two screens on each coach with one featuring route maps and informing commuters when the train approaches a station, the other will have information about the facilities available at the station, feeder service, antarmodal facilities and landmarks around the station.
The screen will be associated with the Metro Rail signaling system and they will display information related to certain stations and locality when the train approaches the station.
The existing fleet has a static and dynamic route map installed on the train door.
Dynamic view has a flashing light next to each name of the station when the train approaches the station.
