CHENNAI: In some period when footfalls have fallen in subway stations or solutions are closed because of the outbreak, Chennai Metro Rail Limited has now begun to lease out all accessible space out its channels to boost earnings.
It’s floated tender to search for businesses which may take a permit and utilize almost 1,919 sqft of its distance empty beneath the viaducts of their phase-1 corridor involving Ekattuthangal along with Ashok Nagar and setup retail stores.
This is along with this 12-storey mini-mall that’s under construction at Ekkattuthangal which will be prepared at 2022.
A subway rail official stated they would like to lease out small plots that they have under the viaducts.
These plots, that provide engineers access to this viaducts for upkeep, are differently empty and in danger of being encroached or abused.
The tender is very likely to flip the distances into meals as well as other retail outlets.
“Whenever the raised viaduct requires a twist, it normally goes off the middle of the street.
In these places, we’ve got vacant land that we use during upkeep of the undercarriage of this viaduct.
These distances are largely fenced off to avoid abuse.
We would like to effectively use the area and create revenue from this,” an official said.
“The distances are also near the metro stations and quite available,” he added.
The campaign comes at a time when subway rail has witnessed a substantial fall in ridership and ticketing earnings after it closed services because of Covid-19.
Almost 21km of those 45km phase-1 along with 6.6kilometers of this 9km phase-1 expansion line is raised.
Although the majority of them are constructed on the middle of southern streets, these lines move off the street when they have a twist.
Between the 2.5km distance in Ekkattuthangal into Ashok Nagar metro channel, CMRL has recognized several places at which the viaduct works and can be away from the middle of the street, including distance close to ESI hospital and riverbeds.
“We identified comparable vacant places over other stretches, however they’re exceedingly near the tunnels and building work cannot be achieved,” the officer stated.
Building of the industrial complex close Ekkattuthangal metro channel began early this season.
The complex has been constructed on 41,861sqft room in a price of Rs 73crore.
It’s anticipated to have retail area from the lower flooring and office area in the top levels.
“The industrial complex is a larger property where we’ve already certified area and have begun the building,” the official stated.
