Chennai: Metrowater personnel have worked during late at night to clean the mud from a clogged underground waste system.
Officials said work had been running since the last week after heavy rains destroyed the city.
C Vijayaraj Kumar, the Managing Director of Metrowater, said the rain carries dust and entering into the underground waste system, clogging the gutter line and leads to a puddle of the road.
In some areas, angry residents complained from Got by overflowing.
After this, the authorities examined several tissue drains clogged, and found mud mixed with waste materials such as plastic bottles.
“If the work of removing mud is taken during the day, it will produce traffic congestion.
To avoid this, the work is being carried out at night,” said an official.
This is the first time the metrowater waste pump station works based on 24×7.
More than 300 assistant engineers along with 2,000 field staff involved in removing mud from the gutter system.
Manholes at 2,876 roads are cleaned and desilting taken at 6,367 drains.
This work will continue for some time, the official said.
Metrowater also takes complaints of mixing waste into the water supply path.
Regretfully on the wastewater tract carrying channel began more than a month ago because there were fewer complaints about blocking the gutter lines in the city and in additional areas, the official was claimed.
