Chennai might get a 7.6 km sea bridge soon

Chennai: To reduce traffic congestion in North Chennai caused by the movement of containers to the port, the state government on Tuesday urged the center to build a 7.6kmlong sea bridge connecting the Gate No.1 (Zero gate) from Port Chennai and the crossing of Jalan Manali- Tiruvottiyur.
According to sources, the state has asked NHAI to prepare a feasibility report for projects that may have suspension construction for the movement of fishing vessels without obstacles to the Kasimedu port.
Minister of Highways E V Velu submitted a request to the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday.
A source said, “In his meeting with PM in June, the Head of the Constitutional Court Minister Stalin had urged him to consider the project.
The state has also followed up with the center by mail.” “The volume of traffic, especially container traffic to Port Chennai has increased a lot of folds Over the past two decades.
Movement and parking are uncontrollably for public road users, “said the source.
Under the project to improve Jalan Manali Ennore, Ennore Expressway from Gate No.1 (Gerbang Zero) from Chennai Port has been developed by NHAI to Jalan Raya four lajur with road services on both sides.
This agency also collects user costs for stretching.
The state government believes that a permanent solution is a permanent solution found to overcome the problem of traffic congestion and accidents, and ensure subtle movements for container trucks.
It is impossible to expand the Tiruvottiyur highway because the density of residents of the area is bordered by the road and its proximity to the sea.
The Velu Minister also urged Gadkari to accelerate the implementation of a two-level corridor that connects Chennai port with Maduravoyal along the Cooum River.
The project initiated by the Karunandhi government was stopped by the AIDMK regime Jayalalithaa which quoted environmental problems.
It was originally approved by NHAI as a highway high six lane 20m for 18.3 km with a cost of 1,655 crore.
Following the direction of Gadkari in February this year, NHAI revised a detailed project report for the Doubledecker Bridge to be built at a cost of Rs 5,965 Crore for around 20.56 km.
Sources said the Union minister was also asked to issue five plaza toll road Nhai – Chennasamudram (3.3 km from Waljaja), Nemili (3 km from Sriperumbudur), Vanagaram, Surattu, (in parraur (3 km from Chengalpet) -Located in 10 Km from the corporate / city limit.
The state government appoints an increase in the population in the outskirts of the city and the need for people to travel for their daily needs and work.
