Chennai: Commercial Complex and Business Companies in all cities that have not paid property tax contributions over the past few years may have been awakened to notice Chennai tax larger at their doors.

This raises individual bills to 10 different commercial companies in the mall, officials said.
Officials have also been asked to mark together with their colleagues from the supply of Metrowater Chennai and the Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) and Tangedco and cut water and electricity connections if arrears are not paid.
The source in the Civic body says there are at least 500-600 who have a default of several lakh.
“We have been asked to collect arrears until 2018.
This is a routine process to sustain our tax revenue for the first half a year,” said several zon level officials.
Resources said the tax request targeted for the first half of this financial year by GCC was around RS 650 Crore, including arrears of the previous year.
“This is especially because the collection of last year is very bad because of a pandemic.
The business is emphasized and therefore taxes are not collected,” said an official.
In the financial year 2020-21, GCC can only collect around Rs 470 Crore, half of the targeted requests.
In comparison, this year GCC has collected around RS 300 Crore.
