Chennai: Plan to revive the railroad to Sripumbudur

Chennai: almost nine years after it was included in the budget, the train planned to revive the new line of Sriperumbudur-Guduvanchere in an effort to utilize the commuter and the potential for shipping industrial belts in the West and South.
60km Sriperumbudur-Guduvancherry Line with Spur to Irungattuknai-Avadi Valuable Rs 839crore and included in the 2013-14 budget after several rounds of requests from the people, industry and political parties.
The train took a survey to find out the alignment, land needs and other details but the project did not set out to start construction.
Over the years, it is included among many new line projects frozen by the train board because they want to invest in priority projects.
The source said that the train has now decided to revive the project.
“The zone has told the train board to revive a new line project to serve industrial belts in Oragadam.
There are many potentials in areas for passengers and shipping,” said an official.
After that, it is included in the budget, the train has spent around RS 48crore so far for surveys and other preliminary jobs for new lines.
RS 1Crore is allocated for projects under revised expenditure for 2021-22.
This year, the project received RS1000, only to prevent it from being canceled.
Lines may be developed in phases.
The movement to revive after the South Railway provides a push that is updated to the shipping movement by pulling a car, machine, and other new traffic flows.
The officer’s team has also been formed for connecting with the industry.
The automatic hub starts in Walajabad as part of attracting car traffic to the train.
J Ranganathan, Secretary, Kancheepuram-Chennai Rail Association said that the new line would help serve hundreds of people traveling to work into the industry in the apors, Sriperumbudur, Oragadam and others because only road transportation is available.
He also said that “the train line will help develop the area between industrial belts.
But the new line will take longer to come and the train must see doubling the lines used to operate the goods train.” The Japanese International Cooperation Agency in a report on port connectivity regarding the Chennai-Bengaluru industrial corridor mentioned Avadi to Guduvanchers through Sriperumbudur and Oragadam Rail Link as a short-term solution to connect the industrial hub with Port Chennai and Ennore.
