Chennai: Public Transport Back, but the flood road is still sick

Chennai: Even when public transportation returns to the track on the streets flooded in Chennai, buses and trains operated according to Sunday schedule.
Although the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) mobilizes 2,500 buses, many are struggling to complete travel on time because of the transfer of traffic and subway flooded.
One bus was submerged in Subway Aranganathan in T Nagar when the driver goes ahead without regard to the barricade.
Koyambedu saw an increase in traffic flow because many people returned to Chennai after the intensity of rain fell.
As far as local trains, some commuters suffer from reduced services.
The train was crowded because only two or three were operated per hour and none of them were ‘local’.
Because of this, many were forced to take a crowded bus during rush hour.
Curning this, K Baskar, a former consulting committee of the member division member said, “In the middle of the pandemic, passengers were forced to take risks by traveling by a very crowded train”.
The passengers wait at N Nagar have a difficult time because the waste mixed with excess rain continues to flow into the terminus bus continuously.
A MTC official from Terminus said that the motorbike was used to pump water but the surrounding stormwater canals were full.
So, it starts flowing in the opposite direction.
“Unless the larger Chennai Corporation tries to stop the flow of water into the terminus, it will remain a recurring problem,” he said, asking for anonymity.
Terminus along with 15 others in the city should be modernized using the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Council fund.
But it remains a non-starter.
Transport Minister R Rajakannappan earlier this week said that long-term efforts to prevent flooding at Terminal T Nagar and Mandaveli.
The new terminus built in Foreshore Estate, which is less than two miles away.
Automatic rates and taxis also return to normal because demand fell when compared to the last few days.
