Chennai Rain: Sunday brings back memories from the 2015 flood

Chennai: If the spell last night from the rain continuously flooded most of the city brings back past memories, there is more rain in unity in the next three days.
After the 2015 flood, every heavy rain spell brought Déjà Vu’s taste among the residents of Chennai.
Personal weather bloggers say this is a ‘toughest rain’ that has been experienced by the city since 2015.
If the flood roads are Sunday and the flooded environment is something to pass, the government machine has their duties due to heavier rain predicted during the mid-week to low pressure that can move towards the city.
Civic’s indifference is exposed to the storm waterways managed by the corporation and the highway department failed to handle the rain of 21.53cm received by the city.
In some stretch of arteries and interior roads, Kneedeep water logging is the norm.
While government officials make a Muluk plan to mobilize motorbike pumps, rescue boat standby in Rendian areas and health camps, Sunday situations are because they do themselves.
According to official sources, the new storm waterways are placed along the artery road a little useful on Sundays.
Puddle is reported at Poonamallee High Road, Velachery-Tambaram Road, ThoraiPakkam Radial Road, GST Road and GNT Road.
The highways department spent around ₹ 212 crore for flood prevention work and storm waterways and culverts throughout the city.
They maintain a long channel network of 303 km and 1,041 bridges and culverts, according to official data.
The corporation said that they had completed their work and improvements in 88% of storm waterways within corporate limits.
The city has 697 km from the SWD network, where Desilting has been done at 620 km SWDS, according to official data.
“We have also used amphibious vehicles for Destilt and dig 30 canals within corporate limits,” said an official.
“Usually after severe rainfall events such as recent rainfall in the state including Chennai, there is an impact phase between 0 to 4 days, ” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.
“Usually infection is carried away, borne by air, infection and vector default injury can be expected.
We must remain vigilant now,” he said.
Health workers will hold camps in low-lying areas in the district, the Ministry of Health has announced.
In addition, 416 cellular medical units and 770 Jip-Borne medical units will provide prevention filtering services to prevent outbreaks.
Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Director Joint Director Priya Ravichandran said that they brought 300 more people from other districts to the city to overcome emergencies.
