Chennai: Chromepet and Chitlapakam Residents have been sentenced to RS 500 respectively to release waste to storm waterways that lead to the basic Lake, local bodies responsible for regions informing the National Green Tribunal (NGT) during the trial on July 12 , The inspection also identified similar violations in other parts of the lake and violators in the case issued notification and was asked to utilize the Pallavaram Municpality underground system.
Local bodies, which began checking illegal sewer connections like that last year, added that the work revoked all the outfalls was completed on June 30.
Last February, NGT Southern Zone has formed a joint committee to see charges raised by newspaper reports on LargeScale waste disposal to the SWD canal in Chromepet, especially in Nallappa Srinivasa Street.
This creates a health hazard borne by a vector, the report said.
The joint committee in March and June 2020 checked the SWD canal, which was bound by the Pallavaram City area on the north side and the Chitlapapakkam City Panchayat area in the south.
Residents from two roads on both sides releasing waste untreated into the canal, the committee report said.
Residents have used small pipes to release wastewater from their homes to canals drained into the basic Lake, the Tamil Nadu pollution control board (TNPCB), which is part of the committee, told the court.
So notice is issued for violators and a fine of RS 500 collected under the Public Health Law.
Considering the progress reported, NGT discarded the case in a specific direction to the local body and the Chengalpet district collector to avoid such complaints in the future.
