Chennai: There will be no rain in Chennai this season, Weathermen said.
That means the tip of northeast monsoon, which carries excessive rain that spills up to January.
“Favorable conditions for the termination of the rainfall of the northeastern season of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikal, Kerala, and areas side by side with coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema and the South Interior of Karnataka on January 22,” said the meeting department.
Personal forecasting and blogger said the city and other countries will continue to see dry weather for the rest of this month.
Temperature will remain ‘almost normal’ on day and night.
Former Deputy IMD Director General Y E A Raj said the absence of rain for several days ended was the only condition that needed to be fulfilled before the stated northeastern monsoon stated.
While October to December is considered the rainy season, the rain has ended suddenly in December or has spilled until January on several occasions.
