Chennai School Corpn gets 1 lakh student after a decade

Chennai: For the first time since the 2010-11 academic year, registration at the school run by Greater Chennai Corporation has violated the sign of one lakh.
In the current academic year (2021-22), 1.01 Lakh students registered in 281 schools run by the Civic body.
Registration has fallen at the GCC school of 1 lakh in 2010-11 to 83, 100 in 2019-20.
Last year, a little increased, to around 90,000.
Corporate officials quoted lost work and income because of the locking induced by Covid-19 Pandemic as the main reason for the increase in revenue.
“Many parents have not been able to pay school fees because they lose their income.
They recognize their children to GCC school,” an official said.
Statistics show that out of 27,000 students who registered new this year, 19,000 came from other schools such as private, CBSE and school assisted school matrices.
The rest are those who entered the new school level – from elementary school to middle to high school to high school – from the GCC school system, the official said.
The corporation has allowed students to class VIII to register even if he did not have a transfer certificate.
This is because many private schools do not issue TCS if parents do not pay fees.
“There will be no problems until class VIII, but for IX-XII class, TC is a must.
We try to find an alternative to such students,” the official said.
Shifting to GCC school also shows that people trust the facilities and quality of teaching, senior official said.
“We constantly update toilets and drinking water facilities at our school.
Teachers also qualify rather than in other schools,” the official said.
Other officials said the challenge of the face of the school now is to maintain students.
