Chennai: Couples, who smuggle and sell marijuana, arrested during the vehicle checks on Wednesday.
Thiagaraja and Priya, residents of Vyasarpadi, rode a bicycle when they were stopped as part of a vehicle inspection on the Republican Day in Ilaya Mudali Street in New Washermenpet.
When he saw the police, they tried to escape.
Priya carried a cloth bag, and examined their belongings, the police took four kilograms of marijuana.
The question revealed that the couple headed to their relatives’ house in the new Washermenpet when they were arrested by red hand.
The police have registered the case and arrested the duo, sent to Puzhal Prison.
The police also seized the couple’s bicycle.
