Chennai: the streets are flooded; Residents are asked to stay indoors

Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi on Thursday asked residents to stay in the room for that day and drink boiled water because some areas in the city were flooded after rain.
While food was supplied on the Amma canteen and 168 shelters opened, residents could not get out of their area due to a tough puddle.
Puddle starts early in the morning after all the big lakes in the city began to overflow.
Bedi said more than 590 100HP power pumps had been deployed and more pumps like that would reach Chennai in the afternoon.
Water is being pumped in most locations of some restrictions where water cannot be removed during rainfall.
He added that more than four lakh people had provided food packages.
The campuses of the Institute of Child Health in Egmore, Kilpuk Medical College and Hospital, K K Nagar Peripheral Hospital and Perilyar Nagar Peripheral Hospital are flooded.
“We pump water from campuses.
So far they have not entered the ward,” said Medical Education Director Dr.
R Narayabu.
The water level rose to five feet on the streets in Pattalam and Pulianthope in North Chennai, where there had been water in three feet after the previous shower.
Suburbs in Madipakkam, ThoraiPakkam and the worst Tambaram are affected when the canal carrying rain overflowing into the road.
Water on the streets force residents in a room that cannot come out to buy important items.
In areas such as Mugalivakkam, Puzhuthivakkam, Velachery, Thirumalai Nagar in Tambaram, Kastepibai Nagar in Adyar, parts of T dragons and colonies at the Seethammal in Alwarpet were very flooded.
Ninth Cross Street in Nanganallur and Taramani Link Road in Velachery appeared like a river.
Ashok Nagar 11th Avenue, 19th Avenue and 13thaavenue have water over four feet.
Power disorders in areas such as Pattalam, Pulianthope, T Nagar, Alwarpet, West Mambalam continued for fifth day.
