Chennai: Youth Fakes Kulon, warned

Chennai: A 24-year-old city resident who did the kidnapping drama to extract money from his parents for a short film he wanted to do in Secunderabad, said the police.
Vinod Kumar (name changed) from Triplicane has taken RS5 Lakh from his father, a field officer at a financial consulting company, a few months ago to make a short film.
On January 13, he left the house saying he would go to the mall in Vadaplani.
However, he did not return and his father filed a complaint.
Vinod phone is turned off.
Meanwhile, Vinod’s father received a message from his son’s phone that he had been kidnapped and would be released with RS30 Lakh payment.
The police told Vinod’s father to negotiate with his kidnappers, while they traced their existence.
The team traced and saved Vinod and as long as he was questioned, he told the police that he faked the kidnapping.
Vinod is released with a warning.
