Chess World Cup: India Vidit Gujrathi enters the quarter-finals

Sochi (Russia): India No.3 Vidit Gujrathi beat Vasif Durarbayli 1.5-0.5 to reach the quarter-finals of the Chess Fide World Cup on Monday.
The 26-year-old Grandmaster appeared with a memorable look to tame Azerbaijan with a low ranking, winning 38 steps in his fifth round meeting.
Both have played the draw in the first two-match mini game.
The world no.22 employs variations of RAM Lopez Arkangelsk against Durarbayli and holds it himself with black pieces to secure victory.
This is a breakthrough performance by Gujrathi based in Nashik because he has posted several wins both on the way to reach the last eight.
His victory came against Seneganan B Adhiban (round three) and Jeffrey Xiong (Round Four).
In the quarter-finals, GM India will face the winner of the match between Jan-Krzystof Duda (Poland) and Alexander Grischuk (Russia).
Gujrathi was the first Indian to reach the last eight since Maestro Vishwanathan Anand appeared in 2000 and 2002.
Favorite tournament and the world No.
1 Magnus Carlsen from Norway was held to draw in the second match by Russia Andrey Espineko and will play The Tie-Break on Tuesday to determine who advanced to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, American Sam Shankland ordered the last eight places with a 1.5-0 gold win over Peter Svidler (Russia).
