Chicago: A Fatal Chicago police officer shot a gunman behind during the foot pursuit in March was stripped of his police strength, the department was confirmed on Monday.
Chicago Police Department spokesman Tom Ahern said officers Evan Solano was stripped of his strength waiting for an investigation into the March 3 shooting Anthony Alvarez.
Inspector David Brown did not explain why he waited until Monday announced the steps recommended by the Civil Police Accountability Office at least two months ago.
Ahern said Brown told reporters that she made a decision after the Copa gave her more information.
John Catanzara, President of Police Union Chicago, did not respond to comments looking for phone calls.
Solano Fatal Shoot Alvarez 22 years two days after other Chicago officers shot and killed Adam Toledo 13 years old during the pursuit of other feet.
The video recording of the pursuit showed that teenagers carrying a gun he dropped or thrown less than a second before he was shot in the chest.
Video recording from the Solano body camera shows the pursuit of a foot where the officer can be heard screaming, “Drop the gun! Drop the gun,” before he opened the fire.
Alvarez seemed to drop a gun after five shots came out and he fell to the ground.
The shooting of teenagers and Alvarez, both Hispanic, places the department under intense supervision and raises more questions about the force that has long been tried by reputation for brutality and racism.
While the Copa did not recommend that officers who shot Adam Toledo, Eric Stillman, were released from the power of his police, it recommended that Solano was stripped.
Shortly after the teenager was killed, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said he had ordered the T department to compile a temporary foot pursuit policy.
Last month, the department announced the policy that, among others, prohibited the pursuit of feet for light traffic violations, and bar officials from separating partners if they could not see the people they pursue or if the officer was injured.
Although the police department has not said why officers chased Alvarez from the beginning, Lightfoot suggested that it was related to light traffic violations, by saying, “We cannot live in a world where a small traffic violation produces a person shot and killed.” The main difference between two The shooting was that Stillman chased a teenager after a shot was fired nearby, allegedly by a man he said authorities was with Adam at night he died.
