New Delhi: A total of 7.9 percent of all cancer cases between 2012-19 were found in children under 14 years, a report prepared by the Indian Medical Research Council.
“Cancer Copathology Profile in India: Hospital-based cancer-based registrar reports, 2021”, consolidated data collected during the period in the 96 cancer-based registrars under the National Cancer Registry (NCRP) program.
Data related to all cases diagnosed and treated from confirmed malignancies reported to these centers throughout the country, the country recorded 13,32,207 cases of cancer during 2012-19.
Of these, 6,10,084 is included for analysis, based on completeness and data quality.
Cancer Childhood Ranking Ninth As the main cause of childhood disease at the global level, accounts for 11.5 million from the disability of the year-adjusted life (Dalys).
In India, according to the recent NCRP report, the proportion of childhood cancer (0-19 years), relative to cancer in all age groups, was found to range from 1 percent to 4.9 percent.
Delhi reported the highest customized incidence rate (AAR) of 203.1 per million in boys and 125.4 per million in girls.
Leukemia contributed almost half of all childhood cancers in both genders in the age group of 0-14 years (46.4 percent in boys and 44.3 percent in girls).
Other common childhood cancers in boys are lymphoma (16.4 percent), while in girls, malignant bone tumors (8.9 percent).
Cancer childhood is presented for two age groups: 0-14 years and 0-19 years to enable national and international comparisons, and classified according to the international classification of childhood cancer.
Apart from childhood cancer, the ICMR report said that cancer on the site associated with tobacco use consisted of cancer 48.7 percent among men and 16.5 percent among women.
The relative proportion of specific cancers of sites is higher in men than women except thyroid cancer (2.5 percent in women versus 1 percent in men) and gallbladder cancer (3.7 percent in women versus 2.2 percent in men).
Among all cancers, the highest proportion of distant metastases in the presentation was seen in patients with lung cancer (49.2 percent of men and 55.5 percent of women), followed by gallbladder cancer (40.9 percent of men and 45.7 percent of women) and prostate) and prostate cancer (42.9 percent).
ICMR reports suggest that chemotherapy is still the most typical treatment modality for many cancers, regardless of the clinical level of disease in the presentation, including liver cancer, gallbladomes, stomach, lung, and child cancer.
