CHENNAI: City business colleges have filed a steep increase in enrolment because the pandemic set-in along with the amount of students changing to civic body-run colleges in government-aided and private colleges has doubled in comparison to pre-Covid decades, official data shows.
Greater Chennai Corporation conducts 281 colleges — 119 main, 92 centre, 38 older and 32 bigger secondary colleges.
From the academic year 2019-20, 18,605 pupils in Courses IXI registered in GCC colleges.
Of these, 6,533 were out of government-aided and private colleges.
In 2020-21, following the outbreak put in, the enrolment in company schools climbed to 27,843 — a 33 percent jump in the prior calendar year.
The year also saw a enormous gain in the amount of pupils departing government-aided and private colleges to its GCC-run schools using 14,763 of these pupils registering.
This was double the amount of pupils made the change the prior calendar year.
Civic officials anticipate high enrolment figures at the present academic year (2021-22) too.
