Glasgow: China and the United States, two largest greenhouse gas emites in the world, will make a joint statement on Wednesday on the COP26 climate summit, spokesman for the Chinese delegation said.
The statement was expected in 1800 GMT on “Chinese-US Glasgow Joint Declaration about increasing climate action in the 2020s,” said the Chinese delegation.
The British has organized a COP26 meeting at Glasgow, Scotland which aims to secure the promise of zero carbon emissions clean and maintain the target of the Paris Agreement on a temperature increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius within reach to curb the impact of global warming.
Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the UN meeting directly.
Instead, last week he delivered a written statement to the opening section of the Summit when leaders usually addressed.
In it, he does not offer additional promises, while urging the state to keep their promises and “strengthen mutual trust and cooperation”.
XI promised the UN General Assembly in September that China would reach carbon neutrality before 2060.
