Beijing: The Chinese military said on Monday it had done landing and beach attack exercises in the province directly across the sea from Taiwan, even though it did not connect the exercises with tensions today with Taipei.
Taiwanese who were ruled democratically, claimed by China as their own territory, had complained about the enhanced military and political pressure from Beijing to force to accept the Chinese government, including a large air force attack to the Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone.
The official newspaper of the official People’s Liberation Army, in a brief report on the Weibo Microblogging account, said the exercise was conducted “in the last few days” in the southern part of Fujian Province.
The action involved “surprise”, sappers and boat specialists, military paper added.
Troops “are divided into several waves to take the beach and do combat tasks at different stages”, he added, without providing further details.
It showed a video of the army on the ship storming the beach, throwing smoke grenades, breaking through the barbed wire defense and digging a trench in the sand.
Drill seems to involve a small number of troops.
Clear weather and calm ocean – suggesting drill does not occur on Monday because Fujian South is currently influenced by tropical storms.
Fujian will be the main launch site for any Chinese invasion for Taiwan because of its geographical closeness.
China routinely did military exercises up and down on the coast as well as the disputed South China Sea.
Taiwanese condemned what was called China’s coercive tactic against him and said it would defend himself if he was attacked.
During the weekend, Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed the oath to “reunite” Taiwan, and Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen said Taiwan would not be forced to submit to China
