China in mind, US continues Act ‘Eagle’: meaning for American leadership & diplomacy

The US House of Representatives Committee on Thursday issued a law that hoped to increase competitiveness with China.
“Ensuring global leadership and engagement measures”, or better known as Eagle Act, have submitted an offer to strengthen US relations with Quad Nations – India, Australia and Japan and countries in Southeast Asia.
The law passed the home foreign affairs committee of 26-20, with Democrats chose yes and the Republicans stood against.
What are the provisions of the Eagle Act? Legislation covers the main provisions that will strengthen US diplomacy and leadership in the Indo-Pacific region which is very important strategically, and overcomes the challenges posed by China.
Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks, Chair of the Committee, said the bill included the provisions that would discuss issues such as alleged Chinese human rights violations of the Uyghur Muslim minority in the Xinjiang region, a closer bond with Taiwan, and the need to provide special immigration status to residents of Hong Kong.
Legislation supports the formation of a Quad Intra-Parlementer Working Group to promote the bonds between US legislators, Japan, Australia and India – countries that are considered to be key partners with shared values and interest in the Indo-Pacific.
It also tries to form a policy stating that the US Ambassador to the United Nations serves as a member of the president’s cabinet.
In addition, this includes the main provisions of WMD (weapons of mass destruction) acting to fight the proliferation of the People’s Republic of China about ballistic missiles and nuclear technology to the Middle East.
It hopes to strengthen the US development financing company by increasing its responsibility from $ 60 billion to $ 100 billion and requires equity investment to be treated as consistent with the Federal Credit Reform Law.
This will significantly increase its ability to invest in supporting international development goals.
Why is the Republican Party opposing this action? The desire for hardline in dealing with China is one of the few bipartisan sentiments in this country, which has been validated in recent surveys.
However, the Republican party said they felt the actions of the eagle ask for too many studies and would be the missing opportunity to take meaningful actions such as tightening technology exports to Beijing.
They also objected to some climate related provisions and said it was too soft in Beijing.
Among other things, the bill will provide billions of dollars for the UN Green Climate Fund, which was fired by the Republican Party as a “Slush Fund” for the World Body.
Not immediately clear when Eagle Act might appear for the vote at home full.
