New Delhi: The US Tank Think has said that China understates the country’s competitors in the South China Sea (SCS) over oil and gas exploration.
The report said that China “challenges neighboring oil and gas activities in neighboring their own exclusive economic zones”.
The US organization said that the stand-off between China and other countries in the region continued regularly, although only a few were widely reported.
The Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative Report (AMTI) said that the ships of the China Guard Coast (CCG) harassed the Malaysian ship near the Kasawari gas field last month.
Amti said: “This is at least the third time since last spring that CCG has harassed Malaysian energy exploration.
This shows the persistence of Beijing in challenging its neighbor’s oil and gas activities in their own exclusive economic zone”.
Amti said that China’s air patrols near the Malaysian air space were ‘possibilities of not coincidence’.
It added that through flying with 16 military planes occurred when Malaysia wanted to install the Wellhead platform in Kasawari.
Last month, Malaysia fought for fighter jets to drive Chinese aircraft which violated the airspace near the South Southern South China (SCS) area.
Malaysia said that this violation was ‘serious threat’ against national sovereignty and flight safety.
“The CCG ship regularly operates around Shoals Luconia nearby, staying there for months and often made a track by Malaysian offshore energy operations”, said US think tank.
Separately, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported that two Chinese vessels entered Japanese territorial waters on Saturday, close to the disputed Senkakan Islands at ECS.
Sputnik quoted the Japanese Broadcaster NHK World that the ships tried to approach Japanese fishing vessels.
The Senkaku Islands claimed by China and Taiwan are also while Japan has control over the islands.
Earlier this week Deputy Prime Minister of Japan and also the Minister of Defense had warned about the possibility of regional tensions because of the Chinese military statement against Taiwan.
At present, China is at odds with most neighbors above land and maritime areas.
These include India, Bhutan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Philippines and Taiwan.
There are reports that China has also disturbed the Nepal region, a friendly country.
