Beijing: Beijing handed over US intelligence reviews to the origin of the Covid-19 pandemic on Sunday, called it “political and wrong” while urging Washington to “stop attacking” China.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry Retort came a few days after the US office of the National Intelligence Director released a more complete version of its findings from the 90-day reviews ordered by President Joe Biden.
The paper said that, without new information, intelligence agencies would not be able to offer a better assessment of whether the virus appeared through animal transmission to humans or leaking Lab.
This adds that China’s collaboration may be needed to achieve conclusive assessments in origins, despite emphasizing that Beijing continues to “inhibit global investigation”.
The theory of lab leaks called this virus spread from research facilities in Wuhan, the city center where transmission was first reported.
This theory is still unfounded, and China has repeatedly rejected it.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin responded to the week’s statement that China had stated strong opposition to the initial findings published in a summary report in August.
“No matter how many times this report is published and how many versions are milked, it cannot change this properties fully political and wrong,” Wang said.
He added that the fact that intelligence agencies were tapped in the original search effort were “evidence of iron” politicization, and urged the US to “stop attacking and smearing China”.
Beijing has been under pressure to consider the new probe to the origin of pandemic after a delayed and politicized visit by the World Health Organization Team of international experts who failed to conclude how the virus first broke.
But Chinese officials have refused this, often maintaining that calls for further information are motivated by politics.
In August, Biden said China held up “important information” at the origin of Covid-19, added that Chinese officials had worked to prevent access to international investigators.
Although Biden’s reviews were launched while the lab-leakage theory gets momentum, the report notes that most institutions believe the virus is not genetically engineered.
