Beijing: Cases of new Coronavirus in Xi’an city locked in China down on Monday, official data showed, while local authorities released two senior officials to “strengthen” their fight against Covid.
Beijing has pursued a “zero covid” approach with strict border restrictions and targeted locking since the virus first appeared, but this strategy has been under pressure with a recent local outbreak.
The northern city of Xi’an, the house for the world-famous terracotta soldier, has become the center of the latest earthquake with the authorities who ordered 13 million residents to stay at home and several mass testing rounds in recent weeks.
Xi’an reported 90 new local virus cases on Monday, down from 122 cases the day before.
Since December 9, there are more than 1,600 cases of viruses reported in the city.
“We have entered a state of general attacks,” the official word Liu Guozhong province according to official notification, adding that it is necessary to achieve the goal of cleaning the Coronavirus community as soon as possible.
On Sunday, Xi’an announced that two senior communist party officials from Yanta Regency had been excluded from their post, according to local media, in an effort to “strengthen the process of prevention and epidemic control” in the area.
Last month, the Chinese Discipline Agency announced that dozens of officials were punished for “insufficient stiffness in preventing and controlling the plague”.
Locals told the media in the past few days they struggled to find enough food, although there was a Chinese authority insisting they worked to ensure stable equipment.
Although the China Coronavirus case reported was low compared to elsewhere, new infections in the past few days have reached a high that was not seen in the country since March 2020.
Spike came as Beijing preparing to host the winter Olympics next month.
