Beijing: China reported 71 new Covid-19 cases on July 26, the National Health Authority said on Tuesday, as a breakdown of a very prominent Delta variant threatening East Nanjing City.
Local infections contributed 31 from new cases, down from 40 days earlier, said the National Health Commission in a statement.
All local cases were reported in the eastern province of Jiangsu, where Nanjing was the capital, he said.
Based on the results of genetic testing in patients, the viral tension which caused the Nanjing Coronavirus outbreak was Delta’s tension, a Nanjing City Government official told media conferences on Tuesday.
China has taken a zero tolerance approach to Covid-19 infection, quickly testing the population and tracing contacts from every positive case to prevent the spread of the virus.
Nanjing underwent a second round of massive nucleic acid testing of 9.3 million inhabitants and had started testing the third round in the main areas, the government said.
Nanjing has now marked four high-risk areas and more than 30 medium-risk in the city, which means more stringent restrictions on social distance for such residents.
The number of new national asymptomatic cases – the Chinese did not classify as a confirmed case – down to 20 of the previous 24 days.
Among the cases of symptoms, three are local infections – all in the Northeast Province of Liaoning.
The total Covid-19 case was confirmed on mainland China stood at 92,676, and the death toll remained at 4,636.
