Beijing: China reported more Covid-19 cases when entering the third week of its current outbreak on Monday, while several cities added to the mass testing of mass in an effort to issue locally transmitted infections.
A very contagious Delta variant has been detected in more than a dozen cities since July 20, and officials have asked the regional government authority to track infection and close the gap in control efforts.
“The weakness of the mind must be resolved strongly,” said the National Health Commission (NHC) in a statement on Sundays calling for the plague to be locked up.
Analysts saw the Delta variant as the biggest test of the Chinese zero-covid strategy since the outbreak was earlier last year, but hoping that the authorities would cancel it before beyond control, even if at some economic costs.
Sunday’s 125 new infections confirmed in the mainland including 94 cases transmitted locally, up from the previous day 96, with 81 transmitted locally, while the rest were imported from abroad, NHC said on Monday.
Most local patients on Sunday are in the center of Zhengzhou and the eastern city of Yangzhou, government figures show.
Yangzhou has started the fifth round of the mass test, said the city government on Monday, when Zhengzhou is expected to complete sample collection for the third round of the city test.
The eastern city of Nanjing, hit the outbreak that began at the end of July, despite reporting no more than five local daily cases since August 2, has also started the third round of testing targeted in several regions, after three rounds throughout the city.
The number of new asymptomatic infections is 39, up from 30 the day before.
China does not classify it as a confirmed case.
The calculation of Chinese infection was at 93,826 since the outbreak began, while death remained at 4,636.
