Beijing: China’s health authority reported on Monday that there was no Covid-19 case which was transmitted locally new for the first time since July, offering more signs that the current outbreak began later last month might soon be tapered.
The latest outbreak was encouraged mainly by infection which was first detected among several airport workers in the eastern city of Nanjing on July 20.
Since then, more than 1,200 people in China have been confirmed to be infected.
This outbreak has triggered local authorities throughout the country to wear strong counter-epidemic steps including mass testing for millions of people to identify and isolate operators, and treat infected.
No one was killed in the current outbreak, which mostly focused on Nanjing and Yangzhou cities in Jiangsu Province, near the Shanghai Finance Center.
Throughout China, new local cases fell into the digit last week, after peaking in early August.
But during the weekend, Shanghai placed hundreds of people under quarantine after infection was found in cargo workers in one of the two airdights, triggering concerns about new outbreaks in the city.
Shanghai hasn’t reported a new local infection since then.
Including a new infection detected among the travelers who arrived in mainland China, the National Health Commission reported on Monday a total of 21 new cases confirmed for August 22, down from 32 days earlier.
China reported 16 cases of new asymptomatic coronavirus, which was not classified as an infection that was confirmed until they showed signs of infection such as fever.
It dropped from 19 the day before.
All new asymptomatic cases are all imported.
Mainland China on August 22 has recorded 94,652 confirmed cases, with the death toll of 4.636, unchanged since the end of January.
