Beinjing: Tibetan children in Qinghai Northwestern Province are blocked by the authorities from taking classes outside their school during the winter vacation in an effort aiming to weaken the connection to their mother tongue, the media report quoted the source.
Notification of the ban was released in October to all districts in the province to block children from taking the class outside.
Historically Qinghai Province is part of the Tibetan Northeast Amdo region.
“There are no individuals or organizations that are permitted to hold informal classes or workshops to teach Tibetan language during the winter holidays when schools are closed,” Radio Free Asia (RFA) quotes the source that says.
Furthermore, the source said that teachers in all provinces have been called for meetings held to tell them about the ban.
The violation of the government’s orders will produce “serious legal consequences and punishment”, he said.
Emphasize that this is an attempt to delete Tibetan, the source said that subjects such as mathematics and science have been taught in Chinese in all elementary schools, and except for formal classes in Tibetan themselves, all other subjects will be gradually taught in Chinese too.
The authorities in Qinghai China have banned monasteries from teaching a language class with young Tibet during their vacation from school, the source said, added that Tibet’s private schools offered instructions in Tibet had also been closed in Qinghai and in Sichuan.
He stressed that the move forced students to go to schools managed by the government where they would be taught entirely in Chinese, according to RFA.
