New Delhi: China has accelerated settlement development along its borders with Bhutan with more than 200 structures, including two-story buildings, in development in six locations, according to satellite image analysis.
Images and analysis by US data analysis companies Hawkeye 360, which uses satellites to collect intelligence on land surface activities, and are examined by two other experts, providing detailed appearance into Chinese construction recently along the border with Bhutan.
The activity related to construction in the area along the Bhutan border has been running since 2020, with China initially built tracks and cleaning areas, based on the material provided by the Capella Space satellite image company and planet Labs, said Chris Bifgers, Hawkeye 360.

The smaller structure was established – perhaps for home appliances and supplies – followed by laying the foundation and then building buildings, said Biggers.
“For me, 2021 is the period of acceleration,” said Biggers.
Two other experts who studied the location of new construction and satellite images recently taken by Capella Space said all six settlements seem to be in disputed areas by China and Bhutan – including contested channels around 110 square kilometers – with a little by means of resources or the original population.
“This is Bhutan’s policy not to talk about the issue of boundaries in public,” said the Bhutan Foreign Ministry in response to questions from Reuters.
