Beijing: A total of 590 people died or lost in China, from January to October this year, due to disasters related to floods that affected 58.9 million people in the country, the Chinese Emergency Management Ministry (MEM) on Monday.
Authorities say 3.5 million people need emergency relocation and 203,000 houses collapse, resulting in direct economic losses of 240.6 billion yuan, Global Times China newspaper reported.
Zhou Xuewen, Deputy Head of the Chinese Emergency Management Ministry (MEM), revealed this statistic at a press conference on Monday.
The publication said that the Chinese authorities had issued a total of 2.186 billion yuan in the central aid fund for natural disasters and allocated 350,000 items of central aid supply to meet the demands of affected people.
The Ministry of Emergency said it had built a troop settlement system because it was founded in 2018, including more than 3000 professional rescue teams at the national level specializing in disasters and other expertise.
According to Zhou, the local government has immediately improved local infrastructure, processing the identification of damaged home safety and harvesting autumn wheat.
In addition, it helped local governments to develop post-disaster recovery and reconstruction plans, the Global Times reported.
Some provinces with better conditions must complete the reconstruction of homes that collapse before the spring festival earlier the following year, Zhou added.
