Malda: Two people were arrested from the West Bengal District of Malda after brown sugar worth around Rs 14 Lakh confiscated from their ownership, the police said on Sunday.
Acting on the tip-off, the police team on Saturday understood both of Susthani more areas near the National Highway 34, said a senior officer.
Overall, 697 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 14 Lakh recovered from their ownership, Inspector of Police Station Bazar Bazar in the cost of Asis Kumar Das said.
The people who were arrested were residents of Shrirampur and the villages of Jalua Baman under the limits of Kaliakak police station.
During the interrogation, the two men admitted that they had brought a smuggled goods from Siliguri and planned to hand them over to drug vendors in Malda, the officer said.
