Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police registered a case against Facebook users to post allegations of memes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the reason for the death of the head of the defense staff General Bipin and 13 in the chopper accident near the coonor.
Saravanampatti police registered a case against the Facebook Kovai Balan (Naanthan Bala) user under Section 153 (a) (1) (a) (promoting hostility between different groups for religion, race, language, etc., and carrying out prejudice Harmoni), 504 (intentional insult with the intention of provoking peace violations) and 505 (2) (sudur statement for public damage) from the Criminal Code.
The police said they gathered more details about Balan before arresting him.
Balan posted a meme on his Facebook account on December 10 which alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the reason for the death of the head of the Head of General Bipin and 13th General Defense.
Defense personnel lost their lives when the Chopper of the Indian Air Force (IAF) MI-17V5 fell near the catteria on December 8.
Kupques Coimbatore, who watched the meme, approached the police on Wednesday.
Based on complaints, the police registered a case against Balan.
City police issued a statement on Wednesday night which stated that BJP and various Hindu clothes members had condemned memes and registered their objections.
Police said Facebook users had tried to announce hostilities between people.
