Dharwad: Following a series of unpleasant incidents such as Covid-19 and disaster in 2021, Christians in Dharwad have decided to leave bitter memories behind and celebrate Christmas in a magnificent way, looking forward to brighter days.
Members will celebrate Christmas in accordance with all government regulations.
This year’s Christmas is very special for Christians in the city because it also marks the 51-year anniversary of the North Indian North Diocesan Church, which has a headquarters in Dharwad.

Educational institutions created by Christian missionaries have played an important role in the designation of Dharwad as an educational hub.
Dharwad has around 7,000 Christian families, 70% of them are Protestants and the rest is Catholic.
Culture has a strong influence on celebrations, while some Christian families are influenced by their colleagues in neighboring Goa.
The Hebich Memorial Church in the Basel Mission Compound, the Holy Church of Christ at the Saint Joseph School, and the All Saints Church on the way of life all decorated and crowded with activities.
Basel’s mission compound, which accommodates many Christian families, has been illuminated brightly and is decorated with interesting balloons, bells, ribbons, stars, glitter, and colorful bunings.
The celebration throughout the week will begin on Friday with ‘Christmas children,’ followed by midnight prayers.
Christian household members will visit the churches at the beginning of the night to join in bulk prayer.
In the same way as Hindu Celebrating Deepavali, Christians illuminate the sky lights and cook dishes such as Chakkuli, Avalakki, Karchikai, and Laadu.
On Saturday, after special prayers in the churches, the bishop and the pastors would provide a Christmas address.

Martin C Borgai in a message said special prayers would be held in honor of Covid soldiers and those who lost their lives during a pandemic.
Jesus Christ preached peace and harmony in the community more than 2000 years ago and his sermon had relevance even now.
The Christmas celebration will be meaningful only when all members of the community regardless of religion, caste and creed live in harmony and celebrate all the shared festivals, he said.
